A candidate is required to complete the PSM before the results are announced. Otherwise, the exam results will be void. The same module cannot be completed at multiple levels.

Yes, a candidate may discontinue a PSM and switch to another. The only requirement is that one of them must be completed.

You must complete the PSM to receive your exam result. Only one PSM is required at each level, so if you fail the exam and have to repeat, you will not have to complete another PSM until you advance to the next level.

If your PSM is not completed by the day of results release, you will not receive your exam result that day.

Practical Skills Modules will not be graded although completion needs to be documented.

The PSM topic can be selected at any point during the candidate's exam study period, following registration.

Each PSM takes 10-15 hours to complete. It can be completed right after registration, in the midst of a candidate's study session or after taking the exam.

Only one PSM is required at each level, so if a candidate fails the exam and has to repeat, they will not be required to complete another PSM until advanced to the next level.

The material in the PSM is separate from the curriculum being studied, there is no “best” time to complete it. It can be done right after registration, in the middle of your studies or after you have taken your exam. The PSM must be completed by the results release date in order to get your exam result. If you do not complete a PSM by the time results are released, your exam result will be voided, and you will not be provided with a pass or fail result.

The Early Bird Registration offers a lower fee for candidates who register for the exam several months in advance, while Standard Registration costs more and is available closer to the exam date.

CFA Institute requires that every CFA Program candidate have a valid international travel passport & approved calculator. Those without a passport cannot sit for the exam.

Only two calculator models are authorized for use during CFA Program exams:

• Hewlett Packard 12C (including the HP 12C Platinum, 12C Platinum 25th anniversary edition, 12C 30th anniversary edition, and HP 12C Prestige)

Yes, you can. There is a USD 250 fee to reschedule your exam appointment within your exam window which is non-refundable.

Yes, you can shift your exam appointment to a different exam window. There are two types of deferral offered by the institute.

• Paid Deferral (costs 449 USD)
• Emergency Deferral (costs 100 USD)

For Payment with the Institute, the below options are available:

You can generate invoice before 40 days of the registration window closes. In that case you will get more time for registration.

For Example -If you generate invoice before the early bird registration window closes, then few days additional time will be offered to you by the institute for paying the fees. The deadline to pay the fees will be mentioned in the mail.

A USD 100 processing fee will be charged by CFA Institute for all approved emergency deferral requests to cover the administrative costs of canceling the registration.

A candidate is allowed only one paid deferral per registration. Once the initial deferral is purchased, further deferrals are not permitted. If another change is needed, a new registration must be paid for.

Once a deferral is purchased, the registration and scheduled exam appointment (if applicable) are canceled. This decision is binding and cannot be reversed. Refunds are not provided.

Registered candidates unable to attend their scheduled exam can purchase a deferral to move to a future exam window.

An emergency deferral allows candidates to postpone their scheduled exam due to specific emergencies, up until the deadline. Candidates are required to provide documentation to support their request. Once approved, the exam appointment can be postponed for up to 12 months, based on exam level and appointment availability, with registration and scheduling deadlines applying.

A candidate is eligible for an emergency deferral if he/she is experiencing a:

• Life-threatening illness (candidate or immediate family member)
• Death of a candidate's immediate family member
• Mandatory military deployment (candidate only) during the exam window
• Pregnancy (candidate only). Please note the candidate may request only one pregnancy deferral per level.
• Rescheduled exam by Prometric within 30 days of the start of the exam window and after contacting Prometric, you are unable to find a new acceptable appointment date.

CFA Institute defines immediate family as the candidate's parent, sibling, spouse/domestic partner, or child. For deferral purposes, grandparents are not considered part of the immediate family.

CFA Institute may take up to seven weeks to review and process emergency deferral requests.

An Emergency Deferral is available for candidates facing qualifying major hardships and who can provide the necessary documentation. In contrast, a Paid Deferral allows candidates to defer their exam for any reason, for a fee, without needing to provide documentation.

The USD 449 fee for a paid deferral covers the additional costs CFA Institute incurs when a candidate changes their plans. This includes expenses for the candidate's absence from the scheduled exam, arranging seating for a future exam, and extending access to the Learning Ecosystem.

Emergency deferral requests are not guaranteed to be approved and are considered on a case-by-case basis, based on the documentation provided. If the request is denied after the exam appointment has passed, a paid deferral may be available for purchase. If a deferral cannot be purchased, a new registration fee will need to be paid once the results are released.

Yes, access to the Learning Ecosystem account will remain available throughout the deferral period for a candidate. If registration is completed for an exam in a future calendar year, the Learning Ecosystem will be updated with the new curriculum accordingly.

Applications will be reviewed and awarded by the university throughout the program year, and decisions are not based on a specific exam cycle. All decisions are considered final.

Access Scholarships are for individuals who may have trouble affording the full cost of the CFA Program, therefore financial need will be strongly considered. Applications will be reviewed and awarded by CFA Institute. All decisions are final.

The Access Scholarship is valid for one exam cycle only. Applications must be submitted during the exam's specific application window. For example, if applied during the May 2025 window, the scholarship can only be used for the May 2025 exam and cannot be transferred.

If the scholarship is not used by a candidate failing to register, schedule, or appear for the exam, eligibility for future scholarships will be lost.

Candidates who have received a scholarship are not allowed to purchase a paid deferral but may request an emergency deferral if the specified criteria are met.

• Students currently attending an affiliated university.  
• Applicants who have not yet registered for their next CFA exam.  
• Applicants do not need to be enrolled in an affiliated degree program to apply.

The Student Scholarship Program accepts applications from 1 September through 31 July.

If a scholarship is not awarded, registration will be allowed at the early registration price for the current exam cycle. The official decision notification from the Scholarships team should be awaited for instructions on registering at the lower fee. If registration is completed before receiving this notification, a refund for the higher registration fee will not be provided. This option is only available if the registration window is still open for the applicable cycle.

Student scholarships are valid for six months from the date the award notification is received from CFA Institute. The decision email should be referred to for this date.

The application must be completed by full-time college/university professors who teach a minimum of 6 credit hours per quarter or semester, or by administrators/department heads who teach a minimum of 3 credit hours per quarter or semester at a qualified institution. The following documents are required and should be submitted as part of the online application:

1. English Language Letter
An English language letter, on university letterhead, must be obtained and signed by an administrator (such as Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, President, Vice President, Principal, Dean, Provost, or Rector) at the institution. This letter should confirm full-time professor status and the number of credit hours taught per quarter or semester.

• A copy (front and back) of a university-issued identification card.
• A copy of a teaching license from the issuing government agency.
